Atlassian Data Center End-of-Life: What Customers Need to Know (2025)

Atlassian Data Center End-of-Life: What Customers Need to Know (2025)

The State of Data Center

When Atlassian ended support for Server in February 2024, the signal was clear: the company is moving customers to the cloud. In September 2025, Data Center remains fully supported, but the future is now defined. Atlassian has announced that Data Center will reach End of Life on March 28, 2029. That gives organizations fewer than four years to plan, test, and migrate. For some, especially those with regulatory or residency needs, Data Center still plays a critical role. But Atlassian’s strategic direction is unmistakable all innovation is going to Cloud.

Atlassian notes that more than 99% of its 300,000+ customers already use Cloud, and most new customers are choosing Cloud from the start. Its enterprise-grade Cloud now supports highly regulated and large-scale customers with expanded data residency, compliance certifications, and even isolated-cloud options.

Why It’s Being Done

The shift is about delivering faster innovation, better scalability, and more unified tools for teams. Data Center no longer aligns with Atlassian’s ability to push forward features like AI teammates (such as Rovo), enterprise search, robust analytics, and global compliance enhancements. Customers on Cloud gain access to connected apps, tighter integration, and new cloud-native capabilities that Data Center will not receive.

Key Dates to Know

  • December 16, 2025 — Atlassian will no longer accept new Marketplace app submissions for Data Center.

  • March 30, 2026 — New customers will not be able to purchase Data Center products or associated app licenses.

  • March 30, 2028 — Existing customers will no longer be able to purchase Data Center expansions, new licenses, or Marketplace apps.

  • March 28, 2029Official End of Life. Data Center products and apps become read-only; licenses expire; support and updates stop.

What Customers Should Do Next

  1. Review your Atlassian environment now
Find what Data Center products and Marketplace apps you’re using. Map integrations, customizations, and current pain points.

  2. Explore Cloud options & migration support
Use Atlassian’s Cloud Platform vs Data Center comparison. Look at migration tools like the new FastShift program and consider whether your organization might need special cloud deployment (isolated cloud, FedRAMP High, etc.).

  3. Begin planning migration timeline
Because new license purchases will end for new and existing customers in stages, creating a strategy that gets you moved or ready before March 2029, and preferably well ahead of that, is essential.

  4. Engage with Atlassian or certified partners
For complex needs (large user count, compliance/regulation requirements, custom deployments), partner assistance helps. Atlassian offers fast-track and solution design support depending on scale.

  5. Prepare for phased transition
Expect support and security updates to continue up to EOL, but begin testing in sandboxes, training teams, mapping data and workflows now so your move is smooth.

The Bottom Line

Atlassian has set the course: Data Center will end on March 28, 2029. While that may seem far off, the earlier organizations begin planning, the more control they will have over cost, timing, and adoption. Every migration is uniquely shaped by compliance, complexity, and culture and requires strategic planning. At OMG Tech Partners, we help enterprises navigate these transitions with confidence. If your team is starting to think about the Atlassian cloud journey, now is the right moment to explore options.
