ATLASSIAN'S SHIFT TO COLLECTIONS
Overview
Jira Service Management has now become Service Collection. You may be thinking, "Oh boy, another collection from Atlassian. What's happening to the company I used to know?". Here's our perspective on why we think the shift to Collections is upon us.
Over the years, Atlassian has built a huge ecosystem Jira, Confluence, JSM, Trello, Bitbucket, Loom, Rovo, Guard, and hundreds of Marketplace apps.
That’s great for flexibility, but it’s also confusing to buy, license, and manage.
Collections bundle related tools into one package with:
-
One subscription
-
One invoice
-
One user count
That’s cleaner for admins, procurement teams, and finance, especially in large orgs managing multiple Atlassian products. Atlassian’s been investing heavily in AI and automation (through Rovo and built-in agents). But adoption can lag when those features live in separate add-ons or require separate purchases.
By bundling them into Collections, Atlassian ensures AI experiences show up where people are already working. So instead of, “Do we want to pay extra for Rovo?” it becomes, “It’s already part of what we have, let’s see what it can do.”
With Service Collection, Atlassian wants to compete head-to-head with ServiceNow, Microsoft, and Salesforce in the enterprise service space.
Collections let them speak the same language: platform bundles, AI-first tools, unified service delivery.
For big customers, this makes Atlassian easier to justify strategically, not just as a collection of tools, but as a comprehensive business platform.
The takeaway
Collections aren’t just about consolidation, they’re about platform maturity.
Atlassian is evolving from “a bunch of great tools” to “one intelligent work platform” where teams build, serve, and collaborate in one ecosystem.
It’s less about change for the sake of it, and more about laying the foundation for the next 5–10 years of AI-driven teamwork.
What’s Changing for JSM Customers
Starting February 2026, all Jira Service Management (JSM) plans will automatically move to Service Collection. This includes the new Customer Service Management app on the same cloud site.
There’s no data migration required and no major changes for most users. Everything stays familiar, just smarter and more connected.
Early Opt-In
From October 2025, eligible admins can opt in early through Atlassian Administration.
Eligible sites include:
-
Monthly JSM plans without discounts
-
JSM Free sites
Enterprise, annual, or discounted plans will transition automatically in 2026, no action needed.
Why It Matters
Service Collection simplifies and strengthens service delivery with:
-
One subscription across service tools
-
AI and automation for faster workflows
-
Unified billing and admin controls
-
Seamless transition, no data moves or downtime
Pricing will match your current JSM plan. The change is separate from the upcoming JSM price updates on October 15, 2025.
At OMG Tech Partners, we help organizations plan and optimize for this change so they’re ready to get the most from Atlassian’s new platform.
